The
Aces competed at the Brantford International meet on Nov. 9 to 11, with
33 other clubs. The clubs in attendance were from Ontario, Quebec and
the USA. The meet had around 1000 swimmers and some of the best in the
country. Olympians and National qualifiers looking for a spot on the
2008 team were racing as well.
Former Ace Matt Mains won the 200 breast in a new meet and earned a
pool record. This set his way for Olympic Trials in Montreal in April.
Alex Buehlow, competing in his last 12-and-under meet, swam great,
as he broke a 10-year-old meet record by just under two seconds. This
swim will rank Buehlow the fastest in the country in the 200 fly for
12-year-old boys. Buehlow won four of his six events, 200 fly, 100 fly,
100 fr, and 200 fr, he was second in the 50 fr and third in the 200 IM.
Buehlow set five new club records. Brooke Davidson, 17, swam in the
competitive 17-and-over category swimming against many Olympic Trial
qualifiers. Davidson swam to a seventh place in the 100 fly and eigth
place in the 200 fly. Kristopher Sanders showed once again that he is
the best breaststroker in the Western Region by placing both the 100
and 200 br.
He was seventh in 200 br and eighth in 100 br. Blythe Mackie is well
on her way to qualifying for her first provincials with a great 200 fly
swim that had her miss the time by a mere .4 seconds. She took off over
40 seconds in four swims, broke 8 year old club records in the 100 fly
and 200 fly, and had a best placing of 16th in the 200 fly. Andrew Warr
broke another club record, in the 100 fly. This one belonged to coach
James Ferber, who held the record for over 10 years.
Warr's best placing was 20th in 100 fly. Erica Buehlow had a best
time and 30th placing in the 200 br. Jaime Doucet placed 39th in the
100 br. Ally Govier 10 years swimming in her first really big meet, did
great recording 100 per cent best times and finishing 19th in 200
fr,100 Im and 50 fly. Zachary Sanders, 10, was eighth in the 200 br
making him one of the fastest 10 and under in the province in
breaststroke. Sarah Sine finished 47th in 200 bk, while Sam Whiteside
joined the Aces for the meet with a 16th place finish in the 400 fr.
The Aces are at home on the Nov. 18, in London at Nothers the weekend
of Nov. 23 to 25.
