A local Ace has Olympic aspirations.

Brooke Davidson will be competing in a national swim competition this May.

Depending on how fast she swims, she may qualify for the Olympic Trials.

"It's doable," she said.

The 17-year-old has been swimming with the Aces since she was 10, and also swims for the Waterloo-Oxford high school team.

She hopes to qualify in the 100 fly, with a time of 1:04.

Currently her best time is about 1:06.

"The coaches always tell me it is my kick outs," she said. "There is nothing else Joni really nails me for."

Joni Maerten-Sanders said Davidson decided she wanted to make the trials this year, so they figured out a plan.

"The plan meant she would have to swim all her workouts, not missing any, and put a full effort into every practice," she said.

Maerten-Sanders said she knows that if Davidson is determined to do something, she will do it.

"Brooke has a drive to accomplish what she sets her mind to."

Maerten-Sanders said the Eastern Nationals will give her a chance to reach her goal, competing against top swimmers.

Davidson said making the Olympic trials depends on how many hours she puts into training, and "how dedicated you are."

This will be her first time competing at a national event.

"It'll be an experience," she said.

Davidson is fairly relaxed about the whole thing, and isn't feeling any stress.

"There is always the next four years," she said.
