Kristopher
Sanders and Alex Buehlow, along with Coach Joni Marten-Sanders
travelled to Ottawa in August to compete in the Ontario Summer games.
The games are the largest multi-sport event, including both team and individual events in the province.
The games held every two years include athletes from 11 to
22-years-old. Approximately 3,300 athletes participated in 26 different
sports.
Alex had a great meet, winning four events (200 fr, 1500 fr, 100fr and 100 fly )and finishing second in two (200 fly and 400 IM)
He also was fifth in 400 fr and fourth in the medley relay. Sanders
was just short in medalling with a fourth in relay and 200 br, fifth in
100 br and eighth in 200 IM and 100 fly.
With the Ontario Games happening at the same time as the Beijing
Summer Olympics, the swimmers competed in the same style as the
Olympians, with afternoon heats and morning finals.
When returning home, both boys, along with Vicky Whiteside, Zachary
Sanders and Erica Buehlow travelled to camps Ak-O-Mak and Chikopi to
spend two weeks, running, swimming and paddling.
The Aces who attended camp had a great time and came home with many
awards. Erica Buehlow, and Sanders both won inspection awards.
Alex Buehlow won Team Comp while Sanders came home with Camper of
the Cabin for the oldest cabin in camp for the seventh time in nine
years.
