Aces busy in spring meets

The Aces competed at several meets over the past two weekend. Eleven members of the Aces travelled to St. Marys for the first Annual Julia Wilkinson Invitational.

Nicholas Bailey, 13, had a great meet, winning gold in five events and silver in two. Bailey also took off the most time for the team and recorded 100 per cent best times. Caitlyn Armstrong, who just turned 7, broke a club record in the 100 backstroke, had 100 per cent best times and was fourth in the 50 back for ten-and-under girls.

Grace Cameron broke four club records and had a best placing of seventh in ten-and-under. She also had 100 per cent best times. Her sister, ten-year-old Katie Cameron, also had 100 per cent best times and finished fifth in the 50 back. Molly Cameron, 8, was sixth in the 50 back and did best times in three of the four events.

Josh Cober, 11, had a great meet as well. He recorded six out of seven best times, won two gold, four silver and one bronze in the meet.

Celine Funk, 10, won gold in 50 br, silver in four events and finished sixth in one.

Tyler Kinzie, 12, won silver in two events and fourth in one.

Trevor Mains, 18, won the 50 fr, and two bronze medals. Annissa Malthaner won her first silver medal in the 400 fr.

She also finished sixth in the 50 br. Kaitlyn Ulmer also recorded 100 per cent best times and won two gold, two silver and a bronze medal.

The same weekend several member of the Aces travelled to Guelph to compete in the annual Victor Davis Meet. Alex Buehlow medalled in all ten events with club records in the 200 IM and 400 IM.

Erica Buehlow swam well finishing eighth in three events, Elise Funk had 100 per cent best times with a best placing of 11th.

Elise competed against over 80 other 11-12 year old girls. Ally Govier also in the 11-12 age group did 100 per cent best times and finished 17th in the 200 fly. Derek Govier was eighth in the 400 IM, Lindsay Gutoskie was eighth in 100 bk, Sam Hesch was 21st in the 200 br, Jacob Isaac struck silver in the 200 fly with a new club record, and was also fourth in the 400 fr, and sixth in 100 fly.

Blythe Mackie had some great swims with a sixth place finish in the 200 fly. Sister Meghan finished sixth in 1500fr and took off over 100 seconds in the meet. Dylan Riddell was tenth in the 100 bk.

Kristopher Sanders was fourth in 100 br, Zachary Sanders recorded 100 per cent best times with a 13th place best finish. Taffin Sekulin was fifth in the 1500 fr, Mary Tilford was fifth in 400 IM, seventh in 800 fr and Vicky Whiteside was 18th in 400 IM while also recording 100 per cent best times.

Over Easter Weekend the Aces travelled to St. Thomas for an Aqua 7 meet. We had some great swims and many first place finishes.

Taking first place medals were: Grace Cameron, 6, four first; Logan Monnikendam, 7, one first; Molly Cameron , 8, one first; Rachel Woolvett , 8, one first; Caitlyn Armstrong, 7, two first; Madeline Woolvett, 8, one first, Damon Woolvett, 9, all first; J. Jay Funk, 9, one first; Katie Cameron, ten, one first; Zachary Sanders, 11, all first; Tyler Kinzie, 12, two first; Ally Govier, 11, four first; Elise Funk, 12, four first; Alex Buehlow, 14, all first; Blythe Mackie, 14, three first; Annissa Malthaner, 13, one first; Meghan Mackie, 13, four first; Aidan Tessier, 13, all first; Kristopher Sanders, two first; Erica Buehlow, two first; Dylan Riddell, 17, one first; Jaime Doucet, 17, three first; and Lindsay Gutoskie, three first.
