Local swimmers have medal haul at Canada Games

Competitive
swimmers Erica and Alex Buehlow returned form the Canada Games in PEI
over the weekend clutching 10 medals earned through their efforts
swimming for Team Ontario in the Swimming With A Disability (SWAD)
division.
In her second Canada Games, Erica, 17, of Bright, captured five gold medals competing as a Special Olympian at the games.
In the women’s 100 freestyle for Special Olympians Erica raced to
gold with a time of 1:05.23, while in the men’s event, her brother
Alex, 14, finished with a time of 56.83, to claim the bronze.
In the women’s 50-metre breast stroke for Special Olympians, Team
Ontario finished with a gold and sliver thanks to the efforts of Erica
(37.56) and Meagan Michie (46.54). On the men’s side, Mike Heath won
the gold in a time of 33.19 and Alex won the Bronze 35.70.
Erica continued her winning ways in the 100 backstroke, capturing
the gold in a time of 1:20.52 — her third gold medal of the
competition. Alex won silver in the 100 backstroke with time of 1:05.07
while fellow Team Ontario competitor Mike Heath followed up with a
bronze Medal performance.
The Buehlows continued their dominance in the 50 backstroke, where Erica captured her fourth gold and Alex won silver again.
In the 50 freestyle event, Erica won gold again with a time of 30.81, while Alex took home the bronze.
Erica and Alex swim in the Swimming With A Disability (SWAD) S-14 category for intellectual disability.
