On Nov 6 to 8, the Wilmot Aquatic Aces traveled to Barrie to compete in the 2009 Meridian Aquafest meet.
The swimmers rose to the occasion as they swam many personal
best times. Most time off for the weekend went to Jacob Isaac. Isaac
had an incredible meet, breaking six Waterloo- Oxford Association (WOA)
records, and one WAAC record in the 10-and-under boys events. He won
the 100 breast (br), 50 fly and 200 br, while being second in the 100
fly and 100 individual medley (Im), and fifth in the 50 freestyle
medley (fr).
His point total was enough for second overall in the boys 10-and-under.
Not to be outdown, Alex Buehlow, 14, also had a great meet,
finishing second overall in 13-14-year-old boys, winning the 1500 fr,
100 fly, 200 fly and 400 fr, and taking second in the 200 IM and 400 Im
and 200 fr.
He also set WOA and WAAC records in the 200 IM, 200 fr and 100 fly.
Erica Buehlow is looking strong as she won the 800 fr for
15-and-over girls. She also finished fourth in 400 IM and 200 br, and
was sixth in the 100 br.
Buehlow set new WOA records in 800 fr, 100 br, and 200 br.
Krista Crawford finished sixth in the 400 IM. Adriana Decker set a
new WOA record in the 100 br and made her first final swims in the
consolation final of the 100 br and 200 br. Celine Funk was eighth in
the 200 br, Elise Funk picked up a seventh in the 800 fr, Ally Govier
was fifth in the 400 IM, and Kristopher Sanders looked good finishing
third in 100 br and fourth in the 200 br.
Mary Tilford had a great meet showing that even after being sick you
can still race hard. She won the 100 bk, breaking both the WOA and WAAC
club records. She also broke WOA records in 200 IM, 800 fr, 200 bk, 200
fr, 100 fr and 400 fr. Tilford also finished fourth in the 800 fr.
Other swimmers who dropped time and swam well were Vicky Whiteside,
Kaitlyn Ulmer, Taffin Sekulin, Patricia Desrochers and Rachelle Cadman.
On Nov. 15 over 150 swimmers competed at the Aqua 7 meet in
Ingersoll. Many swimmers had great swims during the meet.
Seven-year-old Grace Cameron won the 100 fr for seven and
eight-year-old girls, and broke the WOA club record in that event.
Isaac continued his assault on the WOA records by breaking the 100
bk record. Trevor Mains added two more records in the 100 fr and 100
br. Logan Monnikendam drop 32 seconds off his 100 IM record to break it
