WOA swimmers compete in Tillsonburg meet

Over the past week the Waterloo-Oxford Association, which include swimmers from the Wilmot Aquatic Aces and Ingersoll Speed Sharks, competed in three meets

On Jan. 10 the team travelled to Tillsonburg to race South Western Aquatics. The teams had a great meet and WOA came out on top for the women, while SWA won in the men’s division.

Overall SWA won the meet with WOA very close behind.

One hundred percent best times was recorded by Maxim and Ryan Bossy, Molly Cameron, Adrienne Debackere, Brooklyn Geltink, Brooke Holman, Hudson Holman, Jacob Isaac, Claire Leunissen, Victoria Lueddeke, Abby Mathews, Olivia O’Leary, Albert Vo and Veronica Wawryzn.

WOA club records were set by Alex Buehlow, Grace Cameron, Georgia Clarke, Hillary Elliott, Mikaela Elliott, Elise Funk, Jacob Isaac, Veronica Wawryzn and Damon Woolvett. Andrew Elliott broke an Ingersoll Speed Sharks club record. Ryan Bossy swam amazing as he took off 53 seconds in two 25m races.

Those winning races were Ryan Bossy (1), Alex Buehlwo (1), Erica Buehlow (2), Lucas Buggey (2), Grace Cameron (3), Meredith Clarke (1), Krista Crawford (1), Hillary Elliott (3), Oliver Forrest (1), Elise Funk (1), Cee-Jay Hodgson (1), Hudson Holman (1), Caleb Isaac (2), Jacob Isaac (3), Claire Leunissen (1), Marie Leunissen (1), Blythe Mackie (2), natalie McDougall (1), Mary McGaffey (1), Logan Monnikendam (2), Kris Sanders (1), Zach Sanders (3), Vanessa Start (1), Mary Tilford (2), Amanda Vandenbrink (1), Kayla Vandescheur (1), Albert Vo (1), Andrew Warr (2), Veronica Wawryzn (2), Damon Woolvett (2), and Rachel Woolvett (1).

The weekend of Jan. 15- 17, saw the 12-and-unders competing in the Celebration meet in London and the 13-and-overs competing in Etobicoke at the AB Meet.

Alex Buehlow and Andrew Warr both competed in the tough A pool of the AB meet. Buehlow recorded four WOA records and one WAAC record in the 1500 fr. Buehlow placed third in 200 fly, fifth in 1500 fr and 100 fly, and eighth in 200 fr. Warr broke one WOA record and had a best finish of 12th in the 50 fly.

Erica Buehlow won the 400 IM, was third in 100 and 200 breast, fourth in 400 fr and fifth in 200 fr.

Rachelle Cadman was seventh in 50 fly, Krista Crawford was fourth in 200 fly and eighth in 100 fr. Patricia Desrochers was sixth in the 50 br, and set a WOA record in 800 fr. Andrew Elliott was fifth in 200 br and seventh in 200 fr.

Elise Funk set a new WOA record in 200 br and had a best placing of 16th in that event. Scott Hendriks won the 50 fly in an East Coast qualifying time was fifth in 50 fr, and 400 fr, third in 100 fly and eighth in 200 fr.

Caleb Isaac dropped over 80 sec and finished fifth in 200 fly and eighth in 50 back, Tyler Kinzie had a best showing of 12th in 50 back, Meghan Mackie was fifth in 1500 fr, Kris Sanders was first in 50 br, third in 800 fr, 200 Im, 200 bk and 200 fr and fourth in 100 fly, sixth in 100 fr.

Mary Tilford set new WOA records in 800 fr, 200 fr and 400 IM. She was third in 100 bk, sixth in 200 bk and 100 fr, and 800 fr and seventh in 100 fr and 400 IM, Jade Vandescheur set a new WOA record in 100 fr and had a best place of 5th in the 50 br. Kayla Vandescheur was fifth in 50 fly.

The 12-and-unders had a great time at the meet in London. Each of the swimmers will recieve a plaque to put their events and results onto. The youngest member of the team at the meet was seven-year-old Grace Cameron. Grace set a new WOA record in 50 bk with a sixth place finish in the event and eighth in 50 fr. Katie Cameron, 10, had a best showing of 12th in 50 fly. Molly Cameron, 9, was ninth in 200 fr and 50 fr. Georgia Clarke, 10, was seventh in 50 br. Meredith Clarke, 12, was fifth in 50 bk, and Josh Cober had a great meet qualifiying for the East Coast swimming champs in PEI in March. He also set two WOA records 200 IM and 200 fr.

Next up the younger and newer members travel to St. marys to compete in the Julia Wilinson meet.
