Aces continue to dominate

The weekend of Feb 5-6th was a busy one as the ACES and Speed Sharks competed at the Regional swimming championships in London. Many records feel and best times recorded as medal winners were announced.

Hillary Elliott was the sole gold medalist for the team winning the 11 year old 100 m breaststroke in a club record time. Hillary is very close to qualifying for her first provinicals. Alex Buehlow was second in 400 Im, 100 br and 200 bk and finished 5th in 50 fr. Alex set new WOA records in 400 Im, 100 br and 200 bk. Erica Buehlow finished 3rd in the longest race of the weekend the 1500 fr. Megan Mackie and Mary Tilford were third and second in the same race in their age groups. Jacob Isaac continues to impress in the 10 and under age category. Jacob was 3rd in the 50 fly, 4th in 100 fly, 5th in 200 fr and 100 br and 8th in the 100 fr. The last medalist of the weekend was 17 year old Kris Sanders who qualified for Provincials in the 100 br and finished 2nd in 200 br. Other top 8 finishers were Mary Tilford 8th in 200 bk, Kris Sanders 4th in 100 br and 7th in 200 bk, Andrew Elliott was 8th in 100 br and 6th in 200 br. Great swimming by all.

The Waterloo Oxford Association was really busy in the pool on the weekend. Valentines day saw most of the team racing in one of two meets.

Alex Buehlow swam to five WOA records and two WAAC records while picking up gold in the 200 fly, and 200 IM, silver in 200 br and 800 fr and bronze in 200 fr. He was also a member of the 3rd place 15 and over boys relay team.

Erica Buehlow won bronze in the 200 fly while setting new WOA records in both the 100 fly and 200 fly. She also struck gold in the 800 fr and a 6th in 200 bk.

Erica was a member of the gold medal winning 15 and over girls Free relay and second place medley relay.

Rachelle Cadman swam an amazing third leg of the Free relay to help the 15 and over girls strike gold. She also had a best placing of 10th in the 100 fr.

Krista Crawford lead off the relay team to their gold medal. and was 5th in 200 Im and 6th in 200 fly.

Adriana Decker had a best placing of 11th in both the 200 br and 100 br and was a member of the 13-14 girls medley relay that finished third.

Patricia Desrochers was the final member of the gold medal relay team and second place team. She had a best finish of 7th in 200 Im and 8th in 200 br.

Scott Hendriks was a member of the third place 15 and over male relay team and had a best individual showing of 10th in 100 br.

Caleb Isaac was 8th in the 200 bk and anchored the boys relay to a third place finish.

Jacob Isaac racing in his last 10 and under meet won gold in 50 fly and 100 br, and silver in 50 fr and 100 IM, his 100 Im time broke the WOA and WAAC records while his 100 br was a WOA record.

Tyler Kinzie was 11th in his first ever 800 fr.

Blythe Mackie coming off a back injury was 13th in 200 bk and a member of the 3rd place relay.

Mackenzie Saar was 15th in 200 br.

Kris Sanders won silver in the 100 br and 4th in the 200 IM, and a third in the relay.

Zach Sanders was 6th in the 200 br, 7th in 100 br both in WOA record times.

Taffin Sekulin dropped over a minute in the 800 fr to get 8th place in the event.

Mary Tilford had a fabulous meet getting second in 200 fr, third 100 fr and 2nd in 800 fr while breaking six WOA records.

Kaityln Ulmer had a best finishe of 11th in 400 fr.

Jade Vandescheur was 11th in 200 bk, and member of second place relay.

Kayla Vandescheur was 12th in 50 fr.

Lola Vidakovic was 21st in 200 br and recorded 100 per cent best times.

Vickie Whiteside had a good meet finishing 8th in 200 fr, 200 bk, 100 fr and 200 IM and being a member of the second place relay team.

The Aqua 7 meet was held in St. Marys against Stratford.

Dylan Brenneman, Katie Cameron, Molly Cameron, Sarah Debackere, Hillary Elliott, J. Jay Funk, Sarah Kelly, Caley Klaassen, Zoe Monnikendam, MacKeely Shantz, Albert Vo, Sarah Vo, and Rachel Woolvett all recorded 100 per cent best times. Rachel Woolvett took off the most time in the meet with a big improvement in the 400 fr. WOA records were set by Grace Cameron in 8 and under 100 IM and 100 fr, Hillary Elliott ins 100 bk and 50 br, and Trevor Mains in 100 fr.
