First swim meet of season sees ACES break records

The ACES
have started their season with a win over the Ancaster Alligators.
Fifty-two members of the ACES and Speed Sharks joined forces to win
every single relay event in the meet, as well as earning many
first-place finishes and winning both the girls and boys team awards.
Club Records were set by Caitlyn Armstrong in the eight-and-under
50m freestyle and 50m backstroke, Jacob Isaac in the 200m individual
medley (this event was the best race of the meet when 11 year old Jacob
won the open age 200 individual medley event over 15-year-olds),
eight-year-old Grace Cameron in the 25m fly and Michael Heath in the
100m backstroke and 100m breaststroke.
First-place finishes were recorded by Caitlyn Armstrong, Eric
Armstrong, Grace Cameron, Katie Cameron, Molly Cameron, Josh Cober,
Krista Crawford, Patricia Desrochers, Mikaela Elliott, J. Jay Funk, Ally
Govier, Michael Heath, Scott Hendriks, CeeJay Hodgson, Caleb Isaac,
Jacob Isaac, Tyler Kinzie, Meghan Mackie, Natalie MacDougall, Jonah
Noseworthy, Clarissa Rimington, Mackenzie Saar, Christina Sine, Matthew
Smith, Mary Tilford, Kaitlyn Ulmer and Damon Woolvett.
Katie Cameron earned the most overall time off after she took off just over 60 seconds in her four events.
A group of 25 swimmers traveled to St. Catharines a week later to
compete in the WALKER Invitational. The meet has a premier event where
the top 16 entries in the 400m freestyle get to swim against each other.
The ACES had three females and one male swim in the 400m.

Buehlow finished fourth, Mary Tilford was fifth and Erica Buehlow was
eighth, and rounding out the group was Clarissa Rimington, who was
ninth. Each swimmer recieved a Walker 400m T-shirt for competing in the
event.
Mary Tilford led the way for the ACES with nine new club records, a
silver in the 100m back stoke and bronzes in 200m back and 100m free.
She also had two fifths in 200m individual medley and 500m freestyle and
a seventh in the 200m freestyle.
Alex Buehlow also picked up some medals with two silvers (200m fly
and 100m backstroke) and two bronzes (100m fly, and 200m individual
medley) he also had a fourth in 400m freestyle, fifth in 200m freestyle
and seventh in 100m backstroke.
Erica Buehlow was the lone ACE to win a gold medal in the 200m
breaststroke. She set four new club records in 100m breaststroke, 200m
breaststroke, 200m freestyle and 400m freestyle, she also finished with
bronze in the 200m individual medley, fourth in 100m breaststroke,
seventh in 100m fly and eighth in the 400m freestyle.
Grace Cameron, who is only eight, swam in the 10-and-under category
and broke two club records in the 100m individual medley and 100m
freestyle. Krista Crawford was eighth in the 200m breaststroke and
Adrian Decker finished fourth in 100m breaststroke and sixth in 200m
breaststroke.
Jacob Isaac also picked up some medals, getting silver in the 200m
individual medley, bronze in 100m breaststroke and 200m fly and fifth in
the 200m freestyle. He also broke two club records in the 100m
breaststroke and 200m fly.
Meghan Mackie picked up two sixth-place finished in 200m freestyle
and 100m freestyle and two sevenths in 100m fly and 200m backstroke and
an eighth in 200m individual medley.
Kristopher Sanders got a bronze
in the 100m breaststroke. Damon Woolvett broke a club record in the 100m
fly and finished eighth in that event.
Several members of the ACES will be traveling to Barrie next weekend and then the end of November has many more meets.
