Aces swim into Barrie

Sixteen members of the Wilmot Aquatic Aces and Speed Sharks Clubs competed at the 2010 Barrie Advance Aquafest Invitational at the beautiful East Bayfield Recreation Centre in Barrie.

Kristopher Sanders, 17,is the first member of the Aces to qualify for a Provincial championship swim this season. Under new rules, a swimmer has from September until Feb. 15 to qualify for the championships. Kris swam a great 100 m breast stroke, finishing third and getting the provincial qualifying time. Alex Buehlow followed suit on Sunday with the standard in the 200m fly.

Jacob Isaac, 11, had an incredible meet as he set new club records in all of seven of his events.

He finished second in the 100 and 200 m fly, third in the 100 and 200 m breaststroke, 400 m individual medley and 400 m freestyle and fourth in the 200 m individual medley. In each event, he was the youngest swimmer to place in the top four.

Alex Buehlow, 15, set Aces and WOA records in the 100 and 200 m fly, as well as WOA records in the 100 and 200 m freestyle. He was second in the 1,500 m freestyle, third in 200 and 400 m freestyle and 200 m fly, fourth in 100 m fly, fifth in 400 m individual medley and sixth in 100 m freestyle.

Erica Buehlow had a great meet, finishing with six club records, second place in 800 m freestyle, third in 400 m freestyle, 200 m breaststroke, fourth in 400 m individual medley, and 100 m breaststoke, fifth in 200 m individual medley, and seventh in 200 m freestyle.

Michael Heath, 21, set four club records, finishing fourth in the 50 m freestyle, and eighth in 100 m breaststroke. Mary Tilford had another great meet, finishing with four club records, a third in 800 m freestyle and 200 m freestyle, fourth in 400 m freestyle and 50 m freestyle, fifth in 200 m backstroke and 100 m freestyle and sixth in 100 m backstroke.

Other top-eight results were Caleb Isaac’s second in the 1,500 m freestyle, Clarissa Rimington’s seventh in 400 m individual medley, eighth in 200 m individual medley and 200 m freestyle.

Kris Sanders also got an eighth in the 50 m freestyle, Damon Woolvett picked up a couple of fifths in the 400 m freestyle and 400 m individual medley. Krista Crawford also set a club record in 100 m freestyle with a great final swim, winning the consolation final.

Other members who attended were Sarah Debackere with four best times, Celine Funk with all best times, Elise Funk with three best times, and CeeJay Hodgson with a ninth in 400 m freestyle and over 60 seconds off in time.

On Nov. 28, the ACES will be hosting their only meet this season. Please come out and check it out. The team is doing very well this season and having lots of fun.
